New hair.

I got my hair dyed for the first time in 6 months. It was supposed to be flame red with black streaks but it ended up being black with natural red streaks. I originally hated it so much that for the first night I couldnt look in the mirror without sobbing. (Seriously, you can ask Devon, who covered up all of our mirrors with towels.) I’ve never hated a dye job, even in my years of punk rock DIY dye jobs that turned out avocado green by accident, so you can imagine how unhappy i must have been with it. I thought the roots just looked red while the ends looked black… just like the dye had been put on wrong or something.

I decided to wait a day or two before asking for my colorist to fix it, because i was acting a tad irrationally that night… After a few washes the colors evened out a little bit. I’m much happier with how it turned out, although I still wish the red was more brilliant.. Oh well. I suppose I can always just put a bottle of manic panic over it to brighten up the red.

Here’s the look: Any thoughts?

Aww. You’re cute even when you hate your hair. I wish my hair was that shiny. :p

The manic panic idea is a thought. Or maybe you can go to a different stylist and demand to be saved?

For shiny hair i recommend using hair seirum… I dunno what my brand is, but its a translucent bottle with a green pear on it.. Pearitin, maybe? Its pretty pricey ($25 for a smallish bottle) but it makes my constantly dyed hair feel as soft as baby hair and super shiny.

I debated going to a new stylist, but I really get along well with the one I have. She normally does a fantastic job. I think that since i hair was previously dyed a darker color, it threw off the lighter color that she was trying to make it. Plus Devon goes to her for his hair cuts so it would make it awkward for him if I switched.

I think that the problem is that colorists dont want to do really drastic color changes, because it is so harsh on hair. I dont think they believe me when I say that i’m willing to make my hair a little dry in exchange for a really awesome hair color.

Plus, I’m probably gonna chop off my long hair in a year or 2, so i dont care if it gets overprocessed in the mean time.

Sooo sad that you cried. :( Devon, did you really have to cover the mirrors with towels?? I’m glad that it grew on you but you pay that lady enough money that you should definitely complain when you aren’t happy.

You’re gonna chop off your hair?

I’m totally gonna chop off my hair in the next year or 2. I’m gonna get a faux-hawk. I’ve always wanted one. :)
