We had a great Saturday at Fifi’s Halloween costume contest. Unfortunately they (the store running the contest) seemed unwilling to let a reptile win the contest, as the awards were cat and dog focused. We did get a $10 gift certificate to PetCo, but we didn’t place, or even win honorable Mention. In short. We were totally robbed.

However, Fifi totally rocked her “dog”costume. Especially amusing was the fact that a dog showed up wearing a lizard costume.

1st place went to a pirate team consisting of a little dog and a little boy. (They ALWAYS award the little kids! So unfair!)

2nd place went to a dachshund (i think) dressed as a Red Hat Society Lady. His/her costume was completely hand sewn and beaded/sequined by it’s owner. Including it’s feathered hat. The dachshund totally deserved to win.

3rd place went to a little dog team dressed as Men in Black. Talk about dressing up as totally behind the times characters. *yawn*. Fifi totally deserved at least 3rd place.

Devon took lots of pictures. Check them all out. I think my favorite “cute” costume was the squishy pug dressed as bumble bee.

D and I went to a Halloween costume party on Saturday. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a real costume party, let alone one with a date, so I knew that I had to take advantage of that and do a duet type costume… And something where the guy would have to wear something pretty non-costumey, because Devon isn’t really a costume kind of guy.

I had an certain image in my mind and the results ended up being frighteningly on point. The looks:

Alrighty. So this saturday afternoon is Fifi’s halloween costume contest at our local Petco. Since she’s always getting beat by dogs, we decided to go with that. Our iguana will be dressing as a floppy ear-ed puppy. Its going to be so fabulous.
I found the perfect stuffed dog at a local toy store. D and I decided to gut it and then sew on elastic bands to fit Fifi into it… Now taking a knife to a stuffed animal is kinda a bizarre situation. We’ve been huge fans of the Showtime show Dexter, about a serial killer. So Devon grabbed some plastic gloves and I decided to document the occasion in a creepy kind of way. It IS Halloween after all.

I finally uploaded my photos from our “zombie ship” excursion. Unfortunately I forgot to turn off my camera half-way through our hike, so I don’t have any shots of the actual beached ship… However, I did manage to capture a few shots of my rock/seawall scaling chic outfit. Good times.

This is a pic that was snapped by Devon while I was out of town. Apparently Fifi has a very definite preference in her fiction literature. Silly iguana. She’s so adorable when she messes up my alphabetized bookcases.

Fifi has recently become facinated with the ivy growing by the side of our house. I think she likes it because it makes her feel like Godzilla in the jungle.

Fifi and Devon like to snuggle indoors. Hello super cute-ness!

So yesterday D told me to be ready to go somewhere at 3pm yesterday.

At 3pm town car picked me up and then dropped me off at Ummelina Spa, my most favorite-ist spa in the world. I proceeded to get my spa on. When I was done, Devon was waiting for me, and took me to a restaurant that I’ve been wanting to try for a while, Troiani. They had the table all decorated with a Happy Birthday card and streamers and everything. Dinner was totally yummy. Then we came home, where i had to wait in the hallway for a few minutes. When I was allowed into the kitchen, I saw this:

Devon had snuck home early to bake me a cake, and decorated it with Senor Lemur and Miss Fifi.He did a really awesome job! D totally needs to be on the show “Ace of Cakes“. Although another wonderful aspect of it is that the candles say that I’m turning 21. My man rocks. Period.

I was totally happy with having the best birthday ever, but then I look over and see a suspicious looking little blue box. Upon further investigation, it is indeed a box from Tiffany & co. I’ve never had the pleasure of owning anything by them, and Devon really did an awesome job of picking out the piece that he did. Its a silver mesh V-shaped necklace that ties in the back, rather than having a clasp. Its really beautiful, with a smidgen of punk rock.

But yeah. Devon is totally out of control. I wasn’t expecting all this. It was a really great birthday.. Although I would have been more than happy with a super sized meal from McDonald’s and a candle in one of their apple pies.
