Valentine’s Day Frenzy

It must be that time of the year again. Valentine’s Day. It’s a great day, especially now that I’m married & have a permanent date for it, of course. Although I usually liked it, even when I didn’t. When else do you have a day dedicated to flowers, chocolates & stuffed animals? A day when you can wear red, pink & white together and people won’t think that you’re “that” big of a freak. Perhaps I’m just a romantic.  But I dig the idea of a day that’s all about pampering other people, as well as being pampered yourself. It’s the I love Love day!

Anyways. I was at the grocery store today, and as usual on the day before Valentine’s day, the flower department was a mad house. Totally jam packed full of dudes, with wide-eyed stares. Think a deer looking into the headlights of a Mack truck and cross that with a gaggle of panicked zombies who just ran out of brains to nom on. It’s kinda crazy. Looking like they’ve never seen a flower, or been inside a grocery store before.

Really guys, come on. Chicksaurs like flowers, all flowers. It’s really hard to be doing something wrong if you have flowers in hand for your woman… (unless said woman is allergic… then you should consider chocolates instead, hehe.).  Any normal chick will be stoked to get anything that shows that you were thinking of her. Really. You could pick up a piece of gravel, and say “I thought this nub of rock was unique & beautiful & it reminded me of you.” and most girls will totally swoon all over it, and you, and keep said piece of gravel proudly on display… Seriously. We’re easy to please. Me? I just want some snuggle time with my man… And perhaps something of the chocolate flavored variety….

I don’t know if I have a point here, or anything….. Maybe it’s just a piece of advice to guys. Chillax. It’s cool. You will get through this day. Good luck & get out there & show some love.  Over and out.

Lecherous Wolves

Is it just me, but does this Barbie Doll set have very inappropriate sexual undertones?

I came across this doll in a local Toys R’ US. Normally Idon’t have a big issue with Barbie dolls that are dressed like hookers, although do I think that Barbies create an unrealistic body image ideal for impressionable young girls, but that’s another whole post. This one, however I find exceeding creepy with a predatory wolf eyeing up a hooker-ish Little Red Riding Hood. I’m just saying, none of the childrens’ books that I ever read depicted Little Red Riding Hood as wearing fish-net thigh highs and spiked heels. The whole box just kinda screams ” Totally Illegal Jail Bait Barbie & Sexual Predator Ken/Wolf”, you know?

Oh look. You can buy it online too… Oh. And it’s recommended for ages 6 and up. Something about that is just VERY not right. Is it just me?

New spam e-mails.

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

These are terrifing times in the United States & now, even all around the world. So although we should all be nervous by the current financial crisis, this fake e-mail has me giggling.

Dear American:

I need to ask you to support an urgent secret business relationship with a transfer of funds of great magnitude.

I am Ministry of the Treasury of the Republic of America. My country has had crisis that has caused the need for large transfer of funds of 800 billion dollars US. If you would assist me in this transfer, it would be most profitable to you.

I am working with Mr. Phil Gram, lobbyist for UBS, who will be my replacement as Ministry of the Treasury in January. As a Senator, you may know him as the leader of the American banking deregulation movement in the 1990s. This transactin is 100% safe.

This is a matter of great urgency. We need a blank check. We need the funds as quickly as possible. We cannot directly transfer these funds in the names of our close friends because we are constantly under surveillance. My family lawyer advised me that I should look for a reliable and trustworthy person who will act as a next of kin so the funds can be transferred.

Please reply with all of your bank account, IRA and college fund account numbers and those of your children and grandchildren to wallstreetbailout@treasury.gov so that we may transfer your commission for this transaction. After I receive that information, I will respond with detailed information about safeguards that will be used to protect the funds.

Yours Faithfully Minister of Treasury Paulson

Waffle House Wedding.

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Wow. All I can say is wow. (*And that I’m slightly jealous that I didn’t have waffles at D & I’s wedding.*)

This wedding is Klassy. But you gotta love it for the bride and groom getting hitched in a space near & dear to their heart. ALso I love the bride chainsmoking in her wedding dress (in addition to all of the bridesmaids, wedding guests, etc…)

You gotta check out the slideshow of the wedding at the bottom of the page. Love it!

Ballard Organics - Foaming Soaps

I love these hand soaps from Ballard Organics. They have become a staple in my house. The soap comes out super foamy and it smells delicious, in addition to consisting of all natural organic ingredients and being bio-degradable/earth friendly. I especially recommend the Lemongrass scent. Each bottle will run you about $5.They retail in various stores in WA and OR, or you can purchase them direct if your order totals $20 or more.

Are you ready for some football?

Go Pats!

Patriots Logo

I’ll be watching the superbowl. Mostly for the delicious spread of food that always accompanies watching the game at my parent’s house and for the new commercials that always air during the game… Oh.. and I suppose I have some hometown team pride. :)

Go Pats!

Amusing trivia team names.

Wednesday, January 9th, 2008

I’m back in Boston. My brother, Seth broke his hand right before my parents were scheduled to be out of the country, so flew back to drive him to doctor appointments, open jars, fill out forms and other things of that ilk.

Last night we went out to trivia night with some of my friends at the Asgard, in Cambridge. It’s a weekly event and always fun when I can go. One of the parts I enjoy the most is coming up with team names. Every week we choose something different. This week our team name was “Open handed strike”: A nod to Seth’s injury & the fact it’s a better idea to hit something with an open hand instead of knuckles. My favorite team name is below the cut…. Don’t click if you’re easily offended by somewhat vulgar plays on words.

Sorry that i’ve been missing in action recently. I’ve been using most of my time on the interweb researching backpacking in Europe.

I should explain. In May, my brother and I are going to backpack around Europe for 2 weeks. We’ll start in Nice, France and 15 days later we’ll be flying home out of Rome, Italy. We plan on Eurailing it around the continent and traveling on the cheap as much as possible.

Our current itinerary includes stops in Barcelona, Brussels, Amsterdam, Zurich/Schaffhausen, Florence and possibly Bologna. I’m looking forward to eating some amazing food, drinking some great wine, sleeping in overnight trains (which actually look amazingly posh compared to Amtrack as they have white linen restaurants and bars) and staying in cheap hostel/Bed & Breakfast type places and meeting other travelers.

Its kind of daunting. Finding inexpensive but safe places to stay in each city and figuring out the european train system…. Each country seems to have its own train company, and their websites are all separate and the translations are kinda wonky. Its like planning 7 trips at once.

I’m really really really super excited…..
