Although I don’t think that this piece stretched my limits as an artist at all, it was sure alot of fun to make.

I am in the process of taking an electric sander to this gigantic Lee Reynolds Burr painting:

It’s 4′x5′ and has been hanging over looking our foyer… And I hate it. Its got a grey-mauve-sea foam color scheme going on with a touch of 80′s abstract-tasticness. It makes me cringe every time I look at it. However is is hand painted & giganic. But after doing some quick research, the canvas is basically worth more than I could sell the painting for…. If anyone actually would want to buy it. But as an artist, I don’t think that I could, in good faith, sell this to someone who would put it on display. So I’m taking a sander to it & I’m going to do a kinda pop-art splatter paint thing with a bunch of the bright colors that I’ve used to paint some of the rooms. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

This year for Thanksgiving, our friends Russell and Jenny kindly invited us to have Thanksgiving dinner with them. They provided an amazing spread of traditional turkey day goodies and we brought over a homemade pumpkin pie and supplies to try out my henna skills on Jenny. (She’s incredibly brave!)

The next day I still had a bunch of goo left and decided to try out some new ideas and doodle on my hands again. This was the result. Not super amazing, but it was fun to try some new patterns.

And then Devon decided to be brave and let me doodle on him!!! I tried my best at making an Apple computer power button on the back of his neck. I drew one almost perfectly, but unfortunately the back of your neck is a location that’s really hard to keep from smudging. So it didn’t end up staining well… But the initially it looked really rad.

This evening I was really homesick. Missing family and my girls and friends and generally just the hopping social life that I had in Boston. I want to go home and visit, but plane tickets on JetBlue are running over $500 round-trip this summer. I feel bad about spending that kind of money on a “social call” when we’re trying to save money to move back and buy a home. However moving eastward seems like it is at the very least 6 months out, although who knows if it could be 2 years. (I hope to the lemur that it won’t be that long, i might go mad.)

Anyways. I have an art journal, that I used to write in/draw stuff/tape in photos. I hadn’t touched it in 3 years. I pulled it out tonight and just started writing down what I was thinking… Not nearly as poetic as most of the stuff I’d written in there, but it certainly felt good to get stuff down on paper. I think i get stuff stuck in my head and dwell on it and it kills me. I forgot how good it felt to write stuff down… I really want to keep contributing stuff to the journal.. So I can also have happy/positive entries.

And I need to start writing back chick poetry again… Its pretty bad/sappy/weird, but was a lot of fun to go back and read what I wrote back in high school.

Ok… Now to share some of my old school journal entries. (p.s. the drawings were both done with ballpoint pen.)
