Ice Burn.

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

I just got back from sledding behind my house (oh.my.god. I love having a big-ish chunk of land). I busted my hip – I’m going to have the largest bruise on my left leg from my mid thigh to my butt. I also have some lovely scrapes on my forearms from banging around down the icy hill. Nice.

The sledding was totally awesome, although Devon was less than impressed with the mini hill that’s behind our house. But I had a blast, getting exercise & injuring myself in the process. I’m so scrappy.

Donating Red Cellular Goodness

Monday, January 26th, 2009

Over the years I’ve had lots of needles stuck in my face & body (hence all of my gorgeous piercings), however needles still freak me out. Not a hardcore amount, but they still make me squeamish. But I’m all about donating a pint of my blood every so often. Once I was rejected for an iron deficiency, and most times I’m a “slow bleeder”, but in general it’s not a huge problem for me.

I think if you’re an eligible blood donor, you should definitely make an appointment to do so. I’ve recently signed up for a local blood drive in my town. And if the possibility of saving someone’s life isn’t enough good Ju-ju to motivate you to do the same, you can just look at it like I do: If, for whatever terrible reason, you might ever need a blood transfusion, or whatever, you can just look at your current donation as a deposit. :) And an added bonus… You usually get juice and cookies! :)

Check out the American Red Cross site: Give Life to find a blood drive close to you.

Color blind test or splatter paint art?

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

As I mentioned in this post, I had a huge 4 ft by 5 ft canvas that I was repainting, because the original was totally heinous looking. I just wanted something that looked less grimey, and fit with some of the colors that we’ve been repainting our house with.

Although I don’t think that this piece stretched my limits as an artist at all, it was sure alot of fun to make.

Lecherous Wolves

Is it just me, but does this Barbie Doll set have very inappropriate sexual undertones?

I came across this doll in a local Toys R’ US. Normally Idon’t have a big issue with Barbie dolls that are dressed like hookers, although do I think that Barbies create an unrealistic body image ideal for impressionable young girls, but that’s another whole post. This one, however I find exceeding creepy with a predatory wolf eyeing up a hooker-ish Little Red Riding Hood. I’m just saying, none of the childrens’ books that I ever read depicted Little Red Riding Hood as wearing fish-net thigh highs and spiked heels. The whole box just kinda screams ” Totally Illegal Jail Bait Barbie & Sexual Predator Ken/Wolf”, you know?

Oh look. You can buy it online too… Oh. And it’s recommended for ages 6 and up. Something about that is just VERY not right. Is it just me?

Cold iguanas.

If I could knit them all sweaters, I would.

Iguanas falling from trees in Florida.

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) — The chilly weather in southern Florida this week was cold enough to force some iguanas to fall from trees.

Experts say the cold-blooded reptiles go into a deep sleep when the temperature falls into the 40s. Their bodies basically shut off and they lose their grip on the tree.

According to Collier County Domestic Animal Services control supervisor Dana Alger, iguana reports traditionally rise when temperatures drop, as the reptiles seek to warm themselves on asphalt surfaces such as sidewalks, roads and driveways.

Most of the iguanas were once pets that got released when they got too big. The reptiles can grow up to six feet long.

I’m so over snow.

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

So tonight is date night, and our driveway is a 6 inch deep sheet of ice, and it just started dumping snow again. Weak sauce. We have snow tires and 4WD, but i’m growing nervous about not being able to try out Moonstones tonight. And I’m really craving the idea of their fried buffalo calamari with blue cheese. Sounds sooo yummy.

On the upside, we haven’t lost power….. *knocks on wood*.

Feeling artistic & destructive.

I am in the process of taking an electric sander to this gigantic Lee Reynolds Burr painting:

It’s 4′x5′ and has been hanging over looking our foyer… And I hate it. Its got a grey-mauve-sea foam color scheme going on with a touch of 80’s abstract-tasticness. It makes me cringe every time I look at it.  However is is hand painted & giganic. But after doing some quick research, the canvas is basically worth more than I could sell the painting for…. If anyone actually would want to buy it. But as an artist, I don’t think that I could, in good faith, sell this to someone who would put it on display. So I’m taking a sander to it & I’m going to do a kinda pop-art splatter paint thing with a bunch of the bright colors that I’ve used to paint some of the rooms. I’ll let you know how it turns out.
