Finally!
Thursday, January 24th, 2008Sorry I haven’t been posting here in forever. Part of it is that I’ve been devastated by Heath Ledger’s death. He’s been one of my boyfriends ever since way back in his days on Roar. He was a hottie and a great actor. He died too young.
I’ve been flying back and forth between New England and Seattle and still have another trip back this month.
Now for some excitingness. Here are some of my favorite things from this month that I never sat down and made a blog post about, but have meant to:
+Dance Dance Revolution. For the record, I p3wn you all.
+Great bottles of wine at Trader Joe’s for $3.99.
+Avocado. On sandwiches, salads or as guac. I’m a huge fan.
+Wearing scarves.
+Not having a broken hand.
Amusing trivia team names.
Wednesday, January 9th, 2008I’m back in Boston. My brother, Seth broke his hand right before my parents were scheduled to be out of the country, so flew back to drive him to doctor appointments, open jars, fill out forms and other things of that ilk.
Last night we went out to trivia night with some of my friends at the Asgard, in Cambridge. It’s a weekly event and always fun when I can go. One of the parts I enjoy the most is coming up with team names. Every week we choose something different. This week our team name was “Open handed strike”: A nod to Seth’s injury & the fact it’s a better idea to hit something with an open hand instead of knuckles. My favorite team name is below the cut…. Don’t click if you’re easily offended by somewhat vulgar plays on words.

Old pics.
Sunday, January 6th, 2008I just found some photos that my friend Andrew took when I worked at the NU bookstore, back in 2001-2002. I look like I’m about 12, and I’m amused that my hair is totally different in both pics. Also, I’m clearly not slacking at my job as a customer service employee…Futzing with a camera and munching on some PB m&m’s.
Gawd, I loved working there.

Bald Eagles and Lee Press On Nails.
Thursday, January 3rd, 2008I really adore working at PAWS (progressive animal welfare society). Every week we have a new animal with a new story. Every week I learn how to do something new. I get a great workout hauling stuff around the property and I feel like I’m doing something for the greater good.
In late November (i think) we admitted a Bald Eagle. It was covered by a major Seattle news station. It’s assumed that he was a car strike, and he was pretty busted up. He’s had surgery on his his wing in addition to having an eye injury and a wound on his skull. This is the handsome bugger shortly after we got him in.

Even looking all beat up, I still think he’s a gorgeous animal. Today I got to clean his enormous flight pen. I’d guess that its around 1000 sq ft. and 30 ft. tall. So I’m walking around cleaning the pen and he keeps flying over my head from one corner to the opposite corner. He’s massive. His wing span seems as long as I am tall. I kept thinking of that part in the Simpsons movie where Homer gets attacked by a bald eagle. Like, I know I’m too big for him, but I just worry that Mr. Eagle might confuse me with a super-sized big rat meal.
Anyways so the latest chapter to his story is that one of his super-razor-sharp talons is broken off a bit, which is bad, because it makes it harder for him to catch his prey. So today, Dr. John gave him a manicure. They put the eagle under anesthesia and squirted some resin like substance onto nail and then grinded it down into a sharp point. So Mr. Eagle has a fake nail to help him out while his talon grows back.
I dunno. The whole idea of a Bald Eagle having acrylic nails (like me) totally makes me giggle. And it was pretty cool to be able to watch. I really like working at PAWS.

“In Bruges” Trailer
One of the stops on my European adventure is going to be in Belgium. One of the larger cities is Bruges, and I found this trailer for a movie that takes place in Bruges and looked like fun… At the very least it looks like it has some amazing scenery/town backdrops.
