Week 32 Questionnaire

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

I haven’t posted one of these in WAY too long, but I was prompted to post a new questionnaire (even though it isn’t Sunday) by my Dad. He’s currently sitting in Cleveland, waiting for a delayed flight. Here you go!

1. H stands for __________.
2. You HAVE to apply a temporary tattoo onto yourself. The image is of ______.
3. Did you play any jokes on April Fools day this year?
4. What does your favorite sandwich consist of?
5. Say you’re flying cross-country. Would you rather have a layover in a really dead airport with the possibility of having a delayed 2nd flight, or a shorter flight which was extremely turbulent for the entire duration?
6. What are 5 things that you are happy about?
7. Does your mall have kiosks in the middle of it? How annoying do you find them?
8. What movie do you think we should watch for our 4th movie night?
9. What food should we serve at our 4th movie night?
10. What do you do when you are bored?

Fifi & that bright shiny orb in the sky.

Friday, April 6th, 2007

“What is that dastardly bright, shining orb in the sky?”

Fifi looking angrily at the sun.

Its 75 degrees today, in Seattle and Fifi is finally able to get some good natural UV-B sun rays. Fifi is a very happy little iguana.

Boston Latin School Nightmares.

Thursday, April 5th, 2007

I graduated high school in the year 2000. Its now 7 years later and I still have regular nightmares about my high school experience. I get them once a month or so and I always wake up in a total panic that I am still in high school and have another year or class to complete before I graduate. Often there are teachers yelling at me, which is amusing because I rarely got in trouble… for my behavior…. Now, my grades were a totally different story. :)

Sometimes in my dreams, I’m my current age, 24, but still a high school senior. Sometimes I’m being harassed my my old classmates, which also was never actually a problem of mine. Mostly my frenzied panic comes from thinking “Oh god! I really can’t do this again.”

My high school was uber competitive and full of overachieving students and burnt-out teachers. (Not everyone fit this mold, but a great part did.) I enjoyed the social aspect of school, but loathed the academic aspect of it. I didn’t see why a person should be required to take 5 years of Latin, a dead language, unless they we going on to medical school, or something. The music and arts program was pathetic. The school itself was busting at the seams with too many students and not enough educators. I tried so many times to leave, or transfer or just get out, but as a public school student in the city of Boston there really weren’t that many options available to me, so I stuck it out for 6 rather long and unpleasant years.

This all happened 7 years ago. I’ve been out of the 6 year school longer than I was in it. But I’m still waking up with cold sweats in the middle of the night, terrified by my dreams and memories of that place.

Stardust: the Movie.

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

My most favoritest book in the whole world is Stardust by Neil Gaiman. Its a sort of fairy tale about a young man who sets off on an adventure through a magical realm. Its a great story, beautifully written by my favorite author.

In the past Neil Gaiman has had some of his stories and books made into movies, but they were made by the BBC, and lets face it… BBC movies and mini-series aren’t really high quality. I was very pleased to discover that Stardust has been made into a movie by Paramount Pictures! It should hit theaters on August 10th, 2007 and will star all sorts of big Hollywood names like Sienna Miller, Claire Danes, Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert DeNiro.

I’m super stoked to see this movie.

Burlesque!!!

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Last thursday Devon and I went to see our friend Christine perform with her burlesque troop, Sinner Saints Burlesque. They are the same troupe that Devon and I saw perform at the Speakeasy on New Years. They were really amazing. Great dancing and really fabulous costumes (which are all mostly handmade.)
Devon took some really cool photographs.

They’re a ton of fun, and the girls are all really sweet. I really suggest checking them out if you ever get a chance. They perform every Thursday evening at 9pm at Club Noc Noc in Seattle, WA. Admission is only $10 and the show is 21+.

Hardcore Fifi.

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

Fifi rocks. Especially even if she sometimes really wishes that she had her other hand… Devon took this yesterday when she was being an adorable curious iguana and decided to try to scale one of our bookcases. She just didn’t have the extra hand to pull herself up another rung. :( But she’s such a huge trooper. She just hung there for a while until she got bored. This pic kinda reminds me of that scene in Cliffhanger with Sylvester Stallone.

Our iguana scaling iguanas for dummies.

I especially love how she’s trying to dominate “Iguanas for dummies”. I’m totally keeping her. :)
