Ghetto house update #3.

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

So remember this ghetto house? That they then raised up way higher on blocks?

Well, they’ve been working on the house again, and it looks like they were raising it so they could build another story underneath.

Ghetto house being worked on.

It’s just kind of strange because it was such a small, old house that it didn’t seem like it would be worth it to do any construction on it. (Other than drive a bull-dozer though it.) Although I admit that I’m just talking smack and wish that I had house, even a ghetto one like this. :)

Anyways. Its still really weird, but I’m definitely curious to see how it turns out… if they ever finish it.

Have a Nuke-tacular Holiday Season.

It would appear that Fifi’s Christmas gifts have arrived early.

“Nearly one-quarter of America’s 9,962 nuclear weapons are now assigned to the Bangor submarine base on Hood Canal, 20 air miles northwest of downtown Seattle.

This makes Bangor the largest nuclear weapons storehouse in the United States, and possibly the world.”

Wrap-up of the 2nd Annual Diva Art Show.

Me at the 2nd Annual Diva Art Show

(Please excuse my hunched over back and the goofy look on my face)

So my first real art show in Seattle. And this one was my first ever where I seriously had to stand behind my product while people looked at them. I was so nervous. (Devon was so sleepy, hehe)

Luckily, the day ended up being a success. I was one of 6 artists set up at the Highlands Diva location, and I was probably 1st or 2nd in sales. (Although I’m not sure if thats due to people liking my cards, or the fact that my cards were the most inexpensive thing being sold by any of the artists.) I sold at least 15 of my cards, although my profits were cut down a little bit because I ended up buying a beautiful pair of lime green earrings from a beader-artist next to me. :) Out of the hardest hit were my Fifi cards that were captioned “Fifi was a jolly ol’ St. Nick”, as I ended up selling out of those. :)

It was really interesting to see and chat with other local artists. There was the beaded-jewelry maker, another collage artist who worked on boxes and magnets, a painter, an artist couple where the girl took pictures and the guy wrote poems to be overlaid on the photos (which were really amazing looking), and a photographer who dabbled in wreath making. It was great to chat with them and find out where they have displayed their works and where they sell their wares. So I got some great ideas and feel motivated to keep on going with this whole “art thing”. :)

I think if anything, I feel really motivated to start up again on some large scale collages, which I haven’t worked on in probably 1 or 2 years. but I have some great ideas brewing in my head, and hopefully I’ll be able to get some of them out onto canvas.

Geography Quiz.

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

Wow. 12 Years of Primary and Secondary school down the drain.

If you have some spare time and are bored check out this Geography Quiz.

I played it a bunch of times & am horrible at it. There are just too many minuscule countries in Africa, Eastern Europe and Western Asia. A few of the countries I had never even heard of.  Like Turkmenistan, for instance (just North of Iran and Afganistan, fyi). I had never heard of it. Does that make me a bad person?

Winter Orchid Bloom Bustin’

Pink december orchid
3 out of my 5 orchid plants are blooming. I thought they only bloomed spring – summer. Regardless… It makes me smile to see the first one of these bustin’ open (in DECEMBER!!) with a blinding fuschia/fire-red hued flower.

Advent Calendars.

Tuesday, December 5th, 2006

Growing up we always had an advent calendar during the month of December. My brother and I would always fight over who got to open the window for each day. I’m not a hardcore Christmas person, but I still really enjoy advent calendars. This year I bought a little one from IKEA and Devon & I have been taking turns opening the windows. Ours has little bits of chocolate that cover images of holiday items. Anyways. I like them. They have some online versions, but they are mostly written pretty poorly… Like some don’t play for various browsers, or on Macs….

But try one out. Maybe you’ll get lucky.

This one plays a traditional German carol every day.

Das ist gut. :)

Mmm… Spega.

Friday, December 1st, 2006

Rarely is low-fat yogurt something to get excited about, but dammit! I’m excited! I’ve fallen in love with another product from Trader Joe’s. When I had one of these with breakfast this morning, I seriously exclaimed “Holy Crap! This is some awesome yogurt!” (And its not often that I do that.)

Spega, La Natura

Spega – La Natura.

Its a low fat yogurt from Italy, that comes in the cutest little glass jars, in lots of yummy flavors. I especially recommend their Cinnamon and Ginger flavor, which is pictured. Not only is it cute and tasty, but its also pretty good for you.  Each package comes with 2 jarred servings and retails for $2.59 (only at Trader Joe’s as far as I’ve seen). A little pricey, but it’s oh so delicious, plus you can re-use the jars for lots of things, like organizing crafty doo-dads or growing herbs.
