Dangerous Post-holiday sales.

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

The malls are very dangerous with all of the great post-christmas sales. I went to the Northgate mall today to get a broken nail fixed at my salon and I ended up browsing around the rest of the stores.

These fantastically sexy boots, to the left, were originally over $100 at Baker’s. I snagged them for more than 50% off!

And I may be drawn back to the mall for further investigation on Express’s sale on jeans. ($20 off most styles, btw.) Damn evil malls drawing me in with their seductive sales.

Devon beware; the lemur and I may end up melting some credit cards!

O Holy Night.

Sunday, December 24th, 2006

It’s Christmas Eve tonight, which is the perfect time for a charming holiday hymn.

I present to you the best (or worst) rendition of O Holy Night, ever.

O Holy Night.

Merry Christmas, gang!

Word of the… uh… whatever #4

Thursday, December 21st, 2006

This one come from an old letter from an old friend. I like the Latin connection.

Perspicacity

(pur-spuh-KAS-uh-tee)

noun:
Clearness of understanding or insight; penetration, discernment.

Perspicacity comes from Latin perspicax, perspicac-, “sharp-sighted,” from perspicere, “to look through,” from per, “through” + specere, “to look.”

Alright class, please use this word in a sentence. :)

A lizard Christ-child?

Wednesday, December 20th, 2006

Flora (below), is a Komodo dragon living at the Chester Zoo in England. She was pregnant and her eggs are expected to hatch into 8 baby dragon lizards around Christmas.

Flora, Komodo dragon

What makes her story interesting is that she’s never had the pleasure of socializing with any male Komodo dragons. Apparently some other lizards are known to be able to reproduce via self-fertilization, but the Komodo’s ability to do this is a new discovery, which makes them the largest species able to do this.

“The scientists, reporting the discovery in the science journal Nature, said it could help them understand how reptiles colonize new areas.

A female dragon could, for instance, swim to another island and establish a new colony on her own.

“The genetics of self-fertilization in lizards means that all her hatchlings would have to be male. These would grow up to mate with their own mother and therefore, within one generation, there would potentially be a population able to reproduce normally on the new island,”.”

Speaking of Christmas lights….

Monday, December 18th, 2006

I found this great website where you can find local lazer light shows and insane Christmas light displays around the world.

Bronner’s My Christmas Wonderland

I haven’t added our house as I’m not sure that its officially a “wonderland”, but its definitely a bunch of fun to look at all of the guys that are totally out of control with their Christmas displays. :)

Our winter wonderland.

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

So after 3 hours, old lights that were burn out, 2 drug store runs, 9 strands of lights, 3 extension cables, 40 sticky hooks, me being a nazi about gaps in the lighting and much frustration due to our only accessible power supplies being inside our garage and behind our house, our Christmas lights are finally up!!!

We ended up upgrading to new LED lights after we realized that our old blue “isicle”  lights (that we hadn’t used in 2 years) were burnt out. We used little adhesive hooks that may need to be replaced with little screw in hooks, but we were originally just trying to not freak out our landlord (who lives directly across the street) too much. :)

And see, Devon?  No wolves with BB guns in sight! :)

Congrats to Lil’ Liberal!

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

I just wanted to extend a congratulations to my friend and blog commenter, Lil’ Liberal/Moonbatty who gave birth last night, December 15th, at 10.15pm to a healthy baby boy… With no pain meds…. Hardcore.  I totally lost her baby betting pool, but I’ll try to not hold it against Izzie for the rest of his life. :)

Congrats to mommy and baby!

The announcement post.

Tampon Crafts.

Friday, December 15th, 2006

Alright, I think I’ve officially seen it all. Either that or I’ve found a new art form that has yet to be explored.

I present to you: TamponCrafts.com

I don’t feel super OK with reposting pictures shown on the site, but I really must say the stuff that they create really boggles the mind. And I especially enjoy how they provide direction on how to create the objects they exhibit. My personal favorite is their “blowgun with bandolero”, but I dunno… Their Menorah may just be taking things a little bit too far.

Have I ever mentioned that people have WAY too much time on their hands?
