Smelly puzzles

Toes and puzzle

While shopping for puzzles a while back, I came across one that was scented. It had 750 pieces and was a picture of a big bouquet, of like, 8 million flowers. Not thinking about the fact that all of the colors basically look the same and being lured in by a puzzle that smells like flowers, I ended up buying it.

Devon and I started on it this weekend, and let me just say, its a royal pain in the ass. But it’s one of those things that I won’t be able to quit, until I finish it. Just like the last puzzle I did. (Which was a snow landscape with a gazillion light blue pieces… sigh…) Needless to say, our dining room table will be occupied for the next few weeks.

Puzzle company bastards and their good smelling trickery.

How i spent yesterday evening.

Snuggling in bed with my boy and a plate of freshly baked cookies, while watching the history channel is a wonderful thing.

Week 8 Questionnaire

Sunday, May 21st, 2006

2. If you had a neighbor in the apartment building next to yours, who liked to do yoga nude in plain view, would you complain to her landlord?

3. I’m thinking about changing the name of this blog to something more creative than “Emma’s Fantabulous Blog”. Any ideas?

4. What is “fantabulous”?

5. What is horrible?

6. Would you take a picture at a funeral? More specifically, would you take a picture of the deceased?

8. Would you or have you ever picked up a hitchhiker?

9. A good friend of yours buys a really expensive painting and asks if you like it. You think it looks like crap. What do you say?

10. Would you ever spend thousands of dollars on artwork?

Pre-pregnant

Friday, May 19th, 2006

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have issued new recommendations for all women of child bearing age to think of themselves as “Pre-Pregnant”. Basically they are trying to get women to take care of their bodies in case of an unplanned pregancy.

“Among other things, this means all women between first menstrual period and menopause should take folic acid supplements, refrain from smoking, maintain a healthy weight and keep chronic conditions such as asthma and diabetes under control….”

That makes sense. I mean those are all things that women should be doing anyways. But then the Washington Post article goes on to say:

“Women should also make sure all vaccinations are up-to-date and avoid contact with lead-based paints and cat feces, Biermann said.

The report recommends that women stop smoking and discuss with their doctor the danger alcohol poses to a developing fetus.”

Now, I think thats a little extreme. Avoiding lead paint  and cat feces? Are they trying to take away ALL of our fun???

Personally I think all of the recommedations are good ideas, but I gotta say, I find the term “pre-pregant” pretty offensive. It makes it sound like my sole purpose is being a future baby machine. Living a healthy life style is something that I should do for myself, not for a baby that I’m not going to be having any time soon.

In addition, I can’t stomach the idea of someone telling me what I can and can’t do with my body. I mean, dammit!, if I want to smoke and drink heavy while rolling around in cat poo, while eatting lead paint chips, that should be my right to do so.

Just my 2 cents.

Fifi update.

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

Things are still pretty uncertain with Fifi. She’s still not eating and we’ve had to force feed her babyfood along with her meds. On the upside she’s been drinking lots of water and her color is looking much better. Unfortunately when I put her in the tub to do her buisness this morning, I noticed that her buisness was bloody. After crying and talking to the vet, we’ve decided to wait a few days for the anti-biotics to fully kick in and see if Fifi improves any. Also Fifi has a new perscription of opiates to help with pain.

I’m trying to be calm and collected, but I dont deal with stuff like this very well and I’m kind of a wreck right now. I keep dwelling on worst case senarios and then break down in sobbing fits. I just need to distract myself and keep my mind off of it. Its times like these when I really wish I wasn’t 3000 miles away from my friends and family.

We’ll see. She is a mega trooper, and she still needs to conquer Tokyo. Devon and I are rooting for her.

Fifi’s rocks.

Tuesday, May 16th, 2006

Our iguana loves eating rocks. The vet’s x-ray from today proves it.

Iguana with rocks in her belly.

So all of those bright white blobs in her x-rayed body are clumps of rocks. She also has signs of infection in her intestines, which have swollen to over twice of their normal size. They’re so big that they’re pressing against her lungs. She’s probably in a lot of pain, but we wouldnt have known it because she has no vocal chords. :(

We were able to take her home today, and she’s resting as comfortably as possible with a swollen belly, and she’s on 4 different medicines: 2 antibiotics, a laxative and a type of baby medicine for gas. Our iguana has digestive issues. She’s definately not out of the woods yet, but at least she’s able to rest at home with us, instead of being stressed out by all of the barking dogs at the vet.

Get well soon, my little Fighter.

My poor sick iggy

Monday, May 15th, 2006

I’m having a rough night. I’ve been crying for the past few hours.

Devon and I walked into Fifi’s room this evening to find that Fifi had puked and pooped all over her basking platform. Puking in iguanas is a very bad sign, plus Fifi has never had an accident in her room so we rushed her to the vet ER. Her regular exotic doc wont be in until tomorrow and the vet on call didnt really know what was going on. Her color is much paler than normal, and her eyes are red.

She’s alert, but not as active as usual.. although she could have just been sleepy since its past her bedtime. She seems to be doing better than when we first found her. She gave me a kiss on my face when they brought her back out to me, after they examined her. They’re keeping her overnight and giving her IV fluids to rehydrate her until her regular vet arrives in the morning. Her getting sick could be something as simple as us feeding her a few too many pieces of waffle yesterday, or it could be something much more serious.

Please send Fifi some good healthy iggy vibes.

Sunburn.

Monday, May 15th, 2006
This is why a pastey white girl should never go outside in May in a bathing suit… even if it is after 3pm and only for an hour or so….
sunburn on a pastey girl

It may not look like much in the picture, but that was taken right after I came inside and realised that I had gotten burnt. Now its a day later and my whole back is red instead of the pink and my butt ended up being sunburnt also.It hurts to sit down.  Stupid big yellow ball of fire.

Happy Mother’s Day!

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

Happy Mother’s Day to my Mom and all the other moms (and future moms!) out there. I hope everyone had a great day. I know I did… (Even though I only have an iguana baby.) I was extremely surprised by Devon bringing me breakfast in bed and Fifi gifting me a book called “How to Survive a Robot Uprising” :) My iguana is super cute with dreams of world domination.

I need to post a weekly questionnaire but since I’m extremely sunburned, that may have to wait until tomorrow… But dont worry, its on its way.
