New Cards… finally.

Wednesday, May 31st, 2006

Its been 4 months, but I finally finished uploading some new cards to my site. Most of them are decorated with photographs by an Argentinian photographer. I think that they’re pretty nifty…

Here are a few of them. (Click on images to see specific info and larger view)

Birthday Breakfast

Wednesday, May 31st, 2006

In honor of my birthday, Devon took me out for breakfast this morning. We went to one of our favorite dive diners called Cindy’s House of Pancakes. Keep in mind that this is on a Wednesday around 9.30 am.

As we parked, I realised that the parking lot was full of Buicks and Lincolns. After we were seated, I looked around and saw that we were the only people in the joint who didn’t have white hair. After overhearing an old man in his 70s tell a story involving something about falling over without his pants, I looked at Devon and said “This is totally going to be us in 40 years.”

I very much enjoyed my birthday breakfast of crepes and bacon. I had been worried that I would feel horribly old and wrinkley today, but after the visit to Cindy’s, I feel positively youthful.

New RPG idea.

It would be fun to create a role-playing game similar to “Dungeons and Dragons”. I would call it “Lizards and Wizards”. :)

Rocks!

Monday, May 29th, 2006

A week ago, I showed you guys an x-ray of rocks in Fifi’s tummy. Now I can show you a picture of some of those rocks.

The rocks that Fifi ate.

Don’t they look delicious? (sarcasm abounds) I compared them to the x-ray and it looks like she may still have a few more to go, but these are a good start. Shesh! Could she have picked a rock that was anymore pointy and jaggedy? Silly lizard.

Kegga in tha Ahh-bs!

Actually not really. It was a pretty nice day so Devon and I ended up on a “nature stroll” through the Washington Park Arboretum. (Although he may say it was a hike, complete with grappling hooks and what not.)

It was really nice and I took a bunch of pretty pictures.

Super Yummy and Moist Walnut Brownies.

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

Devon was craving dessert sweetness tonight so we ended up baking some super yummy walnut brownies. I think I’m gonna start a new category for recipes that I find especially delish.

Walnut Brownies

Thank you New York Times Cookbook. Your newspaper generally sucks, but your recipe for brownies is spot on.
Ingredients:

  • 4 oz. unsweetened chocolate
  • 5 TBSP Butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (if you’re a nut-nut like me, use a whole cup)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Directions:Melting chocolate and butter

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Grease a 9×9 inch pan.
  2. Melt the chocolate and butter together.
  3. Beat the eggs with the sugar until fluffy and add to the chocolate mixture.
  4. Add the flour, blend and add the nuts, vanilla and salt. Stir until well mixed.
  5. Spread batter in prepared pan. If desired, garnish top with additional nuts.
  6. Bake for about 25 minutes.
  7. Cool in pan, and then cut into squares or bars.

Week 9 Questionnaire

Sunday, May 28th, 2006

1. I turn (shudder) 24 on Wednesday. How should I celebrate?

2. What are your thoughts on karaoke?

3. What song do you currently have on repeat?

4. What would be a fun song to put on a mix tape for a friend you don’t see that often?

5. A friend who is a strict vegetarian is coming for dinner. You’re feeling proud of your soup until you remember that you used a beef stock. Would you keep quiet and serve the dish?

6. a. How many pairs of jeans do you own?
b.How many pairs do you wear regularly?

7. Let’s say the government is overthrown by a party that is violent and undemocratic. Would you join the underground?

8. What is your favorite Bush quote?

9. You are a politician. The people who elected you demand that you take a position on abortion that is against your personal convictions. Do you?

10. And because I’m often hungry and indecisive: What are you having for dinner tonight?

Varekai

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Varekai and Betsey JohnsonDevon’s mom gave us tickets to Cirque Du Soleil’s “Varekai” for my birthday! We went to the show last night and it was totally beautiful and amazing. The costumes were completely fabu, the set was incredible (especially for it being a touring production), the music was great and all of the different acts were were just… well.. frickin’ awesome. :) Being the sucker that I am for beautiful theatrics, I ended crying for part of it.

I’ve watched a few shows on TV, and saw their IMAX movie but had never been to an actual performance before. Yeah. They are about 8 million times better in real life. Its kind of making me lean towards going to Vegas for our anniversary, so I can see one of their shows again. :)
I gotta say, those performers worked their tooshes off. I spent a majority of the show in awe, wondering “How on earth do they do that?”. Definately people that i would love to have at a party. Just imagine the drunken feats of bravery that they would come up with.

So yeah. If Cirque Du Soleil ever comes to your town, I highly recommend going. They’re amazing.

I suck at having a social life.

Beneath the cut is a post filled with me feeling sorry for myself. Proceed at your own risk. (more…)

Sleepy iguana.

Fifi is doing better. She’s been eating the past few days and has perked up a bunch. Her belly isnt as bloated anymore and she’s feisty as hell. She has another week of antibiotics and then hopefully she should be back to normal. Still no signs of rocks yet.

This weekend I woke Devon up  by bringing Fifi over from her room to snuggle. Apparently they were both pretty sleepy, and they ended up falling back asleep. :) It was pretty cute.
