New hair.

Saturday, March 11th, 2006

I got my hair dyed for the first time in 6 months. It was supposed to be flame red with black streaks but it ended up being black with natural red streaks. I originally hated it so much that for the first night I couldnt look in the mirror without sobbing. (Seriously, you can ask Devon, who covered up all of our mirrors with towels.) I’ve never hated a dye job, even in my years of punk rock DIY dye jobs that turned out avocado green by accident, so you can imagine how unhappy i must have been with it. I thought the roots just looked red while the ends looked black… just like the dye had been put on wrong or something.

I decided to wait a day or two before asking for my colorist to fix it, because i was acting a tad irrationally that night… After a few washes the colors evened out a little bit. I’m much happier with how it turned out, although I still wish the red was more brilliant.. Oh well. I suppose I can always just put a bottle of manic panic over it to brighten up the red.

Here’s the look: Any thoughts?

My arms are broken.

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

So since January I’ve been going to the gym 4 or 5 times a week, doing 20-30 mins of cardio with lots of crunches and strength training on my arms, legs and abs. I thought I was getting buff and relatively near being in shape.

I recently changed my type of membership and I was given a free session with a personal trainer. That was scheduled on last tuesday, 2 days ago. My trainer, Cortez, focused on my arms as he kicked my ass, then yelled at me for not eatting breakfast, and then continued to kick my ass for the rest of the hour. I got a great workout, even if he did make me cry.

Yesterday my arms were really sore. Really sore, meaning I had to get Devon to hook my bra when I got dressed that morning. Also unsnapping the toothpaste cap was a massive undertaking. I ended up popping some Advil and my sore muscles eventually were just an annoyance in the back of my mind.

I wake up this morning…. 2 days after my work out – and I’ve definately more sore than I was yesterday. I know that the pain will start to fade tomorrow, but my body has just felt so busted for over 48 hours. And the Advil isnt helping today. Neither is drinking lots of water, or stretching. 8 pound Fifi feels like she weighs 70 pounds, spreading jam on bread feels like a major victory and any arm movement in general causes searing pain. I just want to curl up in a little ball.

Hence this post full of self pity. Rahr! :(

Girl Scout Cookie Season.

Tuesday, March 7th, 2006

They are selling cookies at every grocery store in my area…. I bought 2 boxes this weekend, and we’re about half way through those. (Samosas – the coconut caramel ones and Tag-alongs – Peanut Butter Patties) Drool.. They are going immediately to my belly squish, but I can’t help it! They’re totally addictive…

Which kind is your favorite?
-Thin Mints
-Samoas/Caramel deLites
-Peanut Butter Patties/Tagalongs
-Peanut Butter Sandwich/Do-si-dos
-Shortbread/Trefoils
-Others?

Woohoo! I’m going to France!

Saturday, March 4th, 2006

I’ll be going for 7 days with my parents and plan on bringing back lots of souvineers for Devon (Mr. I dont want to fly coach to europe) and Miss Fifi. (As well as more snow globes to add to my already massive collection) I’m so stoked. France is my favorite place in the world. We’ll be flying into Nice and then driving around the Cote d’Azure while making sure to hit my favorite vineyard – Chateau de Pibarnon in Bandol. Happiness!

Vroom, vroom!

Yeay! We just bought a new car to replace my old one!
my 1999 audi A4.
This is it! It’s a 1999 Audi A4. Its the most beautiful vehicle that I’ve ever driven. We went and picked it up tonight and I got to zoom home on the highway. Ahh, german engineering at its finest. As an added bonus to all of the special features in the car, it also came with it’s original First Aid kit, with everything labeled in German. There is even a crazy foil blanket for those nights when you get trapped in a snowy mountain pass up in the Alps. :) At least thats what I think it is, since I’m just guessing at the english translation of the German labels. :)

But yeah, I’m totally gonna take a cross country road trip this summer!

Yeay! Yeay! and Yeay!

Planting violets kicks off the start to my spring.

This afternoon I planted some violets (viola cornuta hybrid – penny orange jump-up) in a window box outside of our kitchen.

They look super pretty. I havnt gardened in a while and I totally forgot how relaxing it is. I hope that we dont have another hard freeze which might kill them. I’ll just think positively.

A very sad killing hits close to home.

Imette St. Guillen
Imette St. Guillen

A bright, beautiful Boston Latin School graduate was found apparently strangled and dumped in a New York City lot – her naked body covered by a blanket, her head entirely wrapped in duct tape, police sources told the New York Post.
Imette St. Guillen, 24, was last seen alive at a trendy Lower East Side night spot, the Pioneer Bar on the Bowery, early Saturday morning. Her body was found Saturday night after she was reported missing.
St. Guillen, a graduate student in forensic studies at John Jay University, was a 1999 graduate of the prestigious Boston Latin School, according to a friend’s Web site. She grew up on Francis Street in the Longwood medical area in a red triple-decker where she lived with her sister and her mother, a neighbor said.

Imette and I went to the same highschool and I was a year behind her. We were on swim team together for 2 years and we swam in the same “slow swimmer” lane during practices. We weren’t very close, but we chatted a few times, and I remember her as a very sweet, friendly girl. There are some newer reports coming out about her possibly being sexually assaulted by a group, and the details keep getting more gruesome and frightening.

I hope this tradgedy will serve as a reminder to people to always stay with friends when out and drinking.

I hope they catch the bastard or bastards who did this.
